GlobalAustin is a nonprofit community that recognizes the need to cultivate a greater awareness of the world's expanding global interconnectedness by creating cross-cultural networks with leaders, students, and professional visitors from around the world. Located in the state of Texas and a major player in international relations, GlobalAustin recognizes the importance of these shared experiences as a means to create well-informed local communities as well as a more diplomatic world. What started in 1960 as simple program to welcome international students is now a part of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). We regularly host international delegations, which provide our guests and local community organizations with an opportunity to engage with each other and get a firsthand experience of American traditions, culture and hospitality. Additionally, throughout the year we organize and host programs and events which provide citizen diplomats of Austin with a chance to network with like-minded individuals, discuss subjects of global significance, develop ambassadorial skills and create lifetime connections. These opportunities include a Distinguished Speaker's Series, Diplomatic Receptions, International Trivia Night, Scholarship Fundraisers, and the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions discussions.
