The Center for Great Apes’ mission is to provide a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been retired from the entertainment industry, from research, or who are no longer wanted as pets. The Center provides care with dignity in a safe, healthy, and enriching environment for great apes in need of lifetime care.
The Center for Great Apes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.
Our sanctuary home is located in Wauchula, on over 120 acres a few miles from the beautiful Peace River in south central Florida. The tropical forest setting of oak, pine, magnolia, sweet gum, willow, bamboo, palm, guava, mango, ginger, banana, and other exotic fruit trees is similar to great apes' native habitats. The heavily wooded environment is surrounded by hundreds of acres of grapefruit and orange groves.
