About
HI, I Dan Mitchell, started the concept of a micro-brewery in Ithaca, back in May of 1995. I was bartending at the time at two local establishments, The Haunt and Coyote Loco. Customers used to ask me, "Why doesn't Ithaca have any locally produced beer?" Having always wanted to start my own business, I started looking into it. Well, to make a long (three year) story short, welcome to Ithaca's micro-brewery, The Ithaca Beer Company. I purchased our system from a bar in Austin, Texas. I found it by chance, back in December of '97, when I went down to Dallas, Texas to look at a another brewing system that was for sale. It looked like a great system at a great price, on paper. Passing that system up, I had some time to lose in Texas, and having never been there, I decided to travel around a bit. I went down to Austin. On Sixth St., the street that Stevie Ray Vaughn made famous, I walked into a "brew pub". I asked them what they made, and they told me "nothing anymore, we're selling the system". After checking it out, I bought it, and went down a month later to pack it up and ship it to Ithaca.
