Membership in the National Grocers Association is reserved for independent retail and wholesale grocers, with associate membership status available for manufacturers/suppliers and state and local grocery trade associations. N.G.A. members are an elite group of proactive retailers and wholesalers who believe in the independent supermarket's ability to compete with the alternate formats, to invest in the technology to make their businesses successful, and to serve the consumer in the most effective ways. Member Benefits Include: Members receive all N.G.A. newsletters free of charge. These timely newsletters include Express Lanes, Congressional and Regulatory Updates, Employee and Labor Relations newsletters, Action Alerts, Legal Updates, and Food Recalls. Members have the opportunity to participate in a number of different Executive Council Groups. These councils are charged with the task of identifying and communicating to the N.G.A. Board of Directors. N.G.A. membership includes advocacy in Washington on issues affecting independent grocers. The National Grocers Association: supports full repeal of the death tax; is a leading member of the Merchants Payments Coalition”"a broad based coalition of the retailers dedicated to reducing interchange fees; helped secure a two year delay for mandatory country of origin labeling (COL) for meat, produce and peanuts; will continue to encourage the administration to strongly enforce federal antitrust law and advocate for robust congressional oversight; is a member of the National Uniformity for Food Coalition”"a broad group of food industry businesses and associations united in support of the National Uniformity for Food Act of 2005; provides guidance for Regulatory and Legal Compliance issues from the N.G.A. Public Relations Staff; provides counsel on Labor and Employment Law from the prestigious law firm of Krupin O'Brien, LLC; and provides anti-trust counsel from Ron Bloch, with the law firm Kalik Lewin. Members receive discounts on Convention, Conference, and Meeting Rates, as well as discounts for training and educational products in the Grocers Research and Education Foundation (GREF) Resource Catalog. N.G.A. members have the opportunity to participate in Seminars and Workshops on industry specific topics, participate in the National Best Bagger Contest, a yearlong, nationwide program in which the best of the best grocery baggers in the country compete for great prizes and the title of America's Best Bagger, and have the opportunity to enter the Creative Choice Awards Contest which honors and recognizes the best advertising and merchandising in the grocery industry. Members enjoy discounts on N.G.A. Service Corporation programs such as financial services and the electronic payment system program. The N.G.A. Payment Processing Program brings discounts, innovative technology and improved products to N.G.A. members including integrated Electronic Check Acceptance, Gift Cards, Payroll Cards and Internet Connectivity. N.G.A. is also evaluating the potential development of a new ACH Debit card option for grocers and/or a national merchant-controlled credit card.
