Founded in 1959, FAES is incorporated in the state of Maryland as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, and was created by 11 NIH scientists for the purpose of facilitating educational and professional programs in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) bio-medical community. The NIH Bethesda campus is an amazing place where FAES has had the privilege of working alongside some of the most influential minds in scientific and medical research in the world. In addition to the pursuit of educational initiatives, the FAES provides additional support services for the NIH student population to include; a scientific bookstore, conference and cultural events, training, NIH Fellows' support, lectures and special events, and housing.
