We are recognized for our upscale, designer handbags and accessories, but it's the rich history, people and coastal beauty of Daufuskie Island that we most admire. Accessible only by boat, in a seaside cottage nestled on the small island of Daufuskie, an idea began in 2009. Inspired by the island's character and natural beauty, company founder and CEO, Kay Stanley, imagined how linen and leather could marry with colorful patterns and timeless island stories. That thought became a beautifully coordinated handbag collection beloved by women everywhere. Oh, how that idea grew. Spartina 449 is now internationally known and offers an evolving array of products that continue to be inspired by the small, flavorful island we call home. Spartina 449 donates a portion of its proceeds to the Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to education, scientific discovery and charity for the purpose of the preservation of the cultural heritage of Daufuskie. From retail to wholesale, our products are carried in more than 1,500 specialty retail and boutique shops across the country and eight of our very own stores! We opened our first flagship store in Bluffton, S.C., in May 2014, and have since opened seven additional stores in Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C., Highlands N.C., Hilton Head Island, and at Tanger Outlets in Pooler Ga., Bluffton, S.C., and Charleston, S.C.
