DAWN Center for Independent Living is a grassroots, consumer-driven, and consumer-controlled organization. At DAWN, people with disabilities and their families can learn about available options that help them choose how they will live, work, and recreate in their community. DAWN’s mission is to empower people with disabilities to strive for equality and to take control of their lives. DAWN provides the tools that encourage independence and self-advocacy; promotes public awareness of the needs, desires, and rights of individuals living with disabilities; offers community activities that create new experiences and opportunities; and creates informed communities that advance the Independent Living (IL) philosophy. The goal of all Centers for Independent Living (CILs) is to assure the full integration of people with disabilities into the mainstream of society to the greatest extent possible based on each person’s abilities and wishes.
