Mission To conserve birds of prey worldwide by providing leadership in raptor conservation science and education, and by maintaining Hawk Mountain Sanctuary as a model observation, research and education facility. Company Overview Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is famous as the world's first refuge for birds of prey, one of the most recognized hawk migration watchsites in the United States, and an international leader in raptor conservation. Description The Sanctuary is open year-round, and boasts 2,500 acres and an 8-mile trail system with numerous scenic overlooks. The North Lookout is the location of the "official" hawk migration count in spring and autumn. A Visitor Center with exhibits, Wings of Wonder Gallery and bookstore is open daily. A Native Plant Garden and South Lookout trail are handicap accessible. General Information Trails are open year-round, call if inclement weather. The Visitors Center is open daily from 9am-5pm (8am-5pm in Sept. - Nov.). Hawk Mountain is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
