About
The Vision Becomes Reality Two years of research and collaborative input from a wide range of individuals and organizations proved instrumental in helping IslandWood design its curriculum, programs, and facilities. Hands-on learning experiences in an outdoor setting for school-aged children and those who touch their lives. An integrated curriculum, featuring science, technology, and the arts, that helps children and other participants develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between biological and cultural diversity. Expanded weekend and summer programs for adults and families. A sustainably designed campus that serves as a model for energy conservation and community living. The official ground breaking for the center was held in the summer of 2000. Although the core campus and other facilities will not be completed until fall of 2002, educational day programs and special pilot programs for fourth- and fifth-grade students are now underway.
