The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, Inc. is an independent non-profit corporation dedicated to providing emergency medical services (EMS), non-emergency ambulance transportation, and safety training to the Summit community. All of our services are provided free of charge.
As the primary EMS agency for the City of Summit, the First Aid Squad responds to various types of emergency 9-1-1 calls for help. We also provide non-emergency services including “stand by" response at community events and non-emergency transportation to Summit residents.
We are staffed 100% by volunteers and funded entirely through private donations.
Emergency Medical Services are provided at no charge, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all those in need. We respond to more than 2,000 emergency calls each year.
The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad is considered a leader in Emergency Medical Services in the region and provides back-up response to many nearby towns throughout Union, Morris and Essex Counties. In 2014 the Squad answered over 160 mutual aid calls in area communities including towns: Berkley Heights, Chatham, Milburn–Short Hills, Mountainside, New Providence, Springfield, Union, and New York City.
The Squad is run by officers and a Board of Trustees who are elected from among the membership.
