The ifo Institute can look back on a 70-year history that also shapes the Institute's path into the future. Excellent research has always been the starting point of our activities. It provides the material with which the ifo Institute strives to shape the discourse on relevant topics in academia and in the public eye - hence our claim "Shaping the Economic Debate". It would not be possible to fulfill this mission without the people at the ifo Institute, its supporters, and the governing bodies. The work of the ifo Institute focuses on five areas of activity: Research in economics, policy advisory work, provision of information/services, promotion of junior economists, participation in public debate The ifo Institute pursues the goal of achieving excellence in all of these fields. The five areas of activity are closely interlinked such that they form synergies. Excellent research is the basis for the advancement of junior scientists, while at the same time the young scientists contribute significantly to this research. Policy advice and participation in public debates are in turn research based. The involvement of junior scientists in these activities is a special feature of the work of the ifo Institute. Research at ifo combines academic excellence with economic policy relevance. The ifo Institute's activities in the field of infor-mation and services provide important data for research, policy advice, and the public.
