Holding company Simpson Investment Company is one of the oldest privately owned forest products companies in the northwestern US. Its Simpson Timber and Simpson Paper subsidiaries make lumber and paper products. Simpson Timber owns timberlands and produces dimension lumber and plywood at its converting facilities in California, Oregon, and Washington; its Simpson Door Company makes stile and rail wood-panel doors. Simpson Paper's Simpson Tacoma Kraft subsidiary makes bleached and unbleached kraft pulp and linerboard used in packaging (boxes and grocery bags); it recycles more than 500 tons of corrugated containers daily to convert into paper. The Simpson family has controlled the firm since its 1890 founding.
