About
Whizz-Kidz is a national disabled children's charity that aims to transform the lives of young disabled people by providing the vital equipment, support and life skills they need, when they need them, giving them the chance to develop their full potential. The right wheelchair is not automatically provided on the NHS, which is why Whizz-Kidz supplies wheelchairs to young disabled people that fits their needs. Whizz-Kidz aims to work, where possible, with local NHS services and aims to ensure that much-needed improvements are made in delivering wheelchair services for children in the UK. The wheelchair is just the start. We provide wheelchair skills training so that young wheelchair users can learn how to use their equipment safely and with confidence. We have a network of 43 youth clubs, known as ambassador clubs, which are great spaces for young disabled to meet up and have fun. Young disabled people can take part in activities like cooking, arts and crafts, sports, drama and trips out as well as having the chance to get together and campaign on issues that are important to them. We offer residential camps (3 days and 2 nights) in which our youngsters can learn about independent living and it is often the first time they will be away from home and their parents. Finally, did you know that young disabled people between the ages of 16 — 19 are 3 times more likely to be not in any form of education, employment or training than their non-disabled counterparts? Our work placements and work skills days provides disabled young people with the skills and advice they need navigate the world of work. We believe that every young disabled person has the right to a fun and active childhood, and the chance to lead their lives instead of being led. We rely heavily on voluntary funds raised through challenge events, trusts, companies and individuals fundraising within their communities.
