Infusions of cash from Warburg Pincus keep companies in the pink (and black). The partner-owned investment firm has holdings in more than 180 companies in North and South America, Asia, and Europe. It buys stakes in established firms as well as startups and also engages in acquisitions and restructurings, usually taking a seat on the board of companies in which it has interests. The firm invests in a range of industries; prominent among its holdings are health care, media, technology, and energy companies. Founded in 1969, Warburg Pincus is a pioneer in raising investment capital from financial institutions rather than wealthy families. It is also the largest foreign private equity investor in India.
