Tessenderlo Kerley was founded on an idea, an idea based on science and ingenuity. The Kerley brothers took a common byproduct and turned it into profit. Fifty years ago, most natural gas plants in West Texas flared hydrogen sulfide. The Kerley brothers saw an opportunity in this expelled gas. They extracted the elemental sulfur from the hydrogen sulfide byproduct. The brothers then built one of the first recovery plants in Pecos, TX, and started selling sulfur-based fertilizers.
