Life Directions is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1973 with locations in Chicago and Detroit. The core values that guide our mission are: practice of self-responsibility, healthy balance in relationships, embracing partnership in diversity, and discovery of a mission-driven attitude. The vision of Life Directions is Peers Inspiring Peers.
We offer three interconnected community based programs, Peer Mentor, Peer Motivation and Neighborhood Enrichment programs. The Peer Motivation Programs, through in-school partnerships, empowers peers to inspire each other as well as to participate in service learning projects. Through the Peer Mentor Program certified high school peer achievers guide and encourage 8th graders to make high school work for them. The Neighborhood Enrichment Program inspires young adults ages 18 to 35 and adult volunteers over age 35, to break the cycle of violence in the community through peer outreach and organizing intergenerational events. The neighborhood circles formed provide peer to peer support in a value driven manner.
