Wollongong is Australia's ninth largest city, with a population of over 200,000. Located 80 kilometres south of Sydney, Wollongong covers 714 square kilometres and occupies a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra escarpment to the west. Our Strategic Direction and Priorities Council has a range of priorities that it must consider in its planning and allocation of resources. Our current focus is on our policies, procedures and practices relating to tendering, contracting and the purchase of goods and services. Value for Money We are committed to the provision of cost effective services that provide the community with good value for money. This requires active financial management now and into the future. We are reviewing our services to understand and improve how we must deliver them. Infrastructure and Service Planning We own and manage a wide variety of assets on behalf of the community. Assets like roads, parks, stormwater, drainage, libraries and community facilities underpin the success of the city as a place for people to live, work and play. Climate Change The potential impacts of climate change and sea level rise require us to plan for and manage our existing coastal communities, consider the impacts of flooding on new development, and propose mitigation and adaption measures for anticipated risk.
