SkyTruth's mission is to share the view from space to inspire people to protect the environment. Our vision is to live in a world where everyone can see what's happening in the environment everywhere, inspiring action to protect our planet. We are a nonproft 501(c)(3) that innovates in applying satellite imagery and big data to a range of environmental challenges. These include energy and climate (such as fracking, mountaintop coal mining, industrial pollution, oil and gas development), ocean protection (oil spills, illegal fishing, pollution) and more. With our partners Google and Oceana, we launched Global Fishing Watch to track vessel activity at sea, and were the first to demonstrate that the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill was vastly larger than the federal government and BP claimed. SkyTruth gives away all of our information for free, so that citizens, researchers, journalists, and conservationists can hold governments and businesses accountable for environmental impacts, and bring about positive change.
