We produce uniquely functional materials that are good for the planet. Our mission is to be the world-leading producer of advanced materials from algae and a driving force towards a circular and bio-based industry. We are the first company in the world to cultivate and sell diatom algae shells. We call the material Algica®. Algica® is a porous silica with unique light altering, absorptive and binding properties that are unmatched by synthetic materials. Algica® makes silicon solar cells at least 4% more efficient (4% is worth at least €1,2B annually for the solar energy industry) and DSSC 38% more efficient. Each kg Algica® used in solar panels reduces C02 emissions with at leasts 200 tons according to WWF. Algica® is also a top-performing and certified organic personal care ingredient. We've launched a face mask with L:A Bruket and several customers have launches planned in the coming months. The production is circular and we aim to make it as environmentally friendly as possible. The algae clean nutrient rich water from a land-based fish farm, and absorb CO2 and key nutrients that can be made into sustainable fish feed. Patents pending for the cultivation design and the main applications. The core team has over 100 years' combined experience in algae research, biology and engineering. The founders are Angela Wulff, an algae Professor at Gothenburg University, and Sofie Allert, a biotech engineer with a MSc in Entrepreneurship from Chalmers University. We are currently backed by several EU and Swedish Energy Agency grants, Chalmers Ventures, KIC Innoenergy, Almi invest, Walerud Ventures and a former president of AkzoNobel. Two team members have co-authored a Nature paper on the material's UV light properties. Awards include WWF Climate Solver, Zennström Green Mentorship Award, Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge finalists, DI Digital and 33-listan finalists.
