Michigan Virtual University is a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1998 by the State of Michigan to provide e-learning opportunities for Michigan's workforce and to serve as a catalyst in furthering technology-based strategies throughout the education community. MVU is the parent organization of the Michigan Virtual High School and is the coordinating agency, in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Education, of the State's Freedom to Learn wireless education technology program. Most recently, MVU accepted the responsibility of coordinating the Governor's Education Technology Fund, which supports statewide technology-related initiatives at the K-12 level in Michigan.
