About
In 2000, MPS made two additional acquisitions both in the Birmingham area. The first, American Metal Products located in north Birmingham, added the industry market share leader in wood pole street light brackets to the company's product offering. The second was the fiberglass and aluminum hardware business of Preformed Line Products (PLP) located in Anniston, AL. This business, formerly know as American Connector Engineering (ACE), had been acquired by PLP in 1995 but was determined to be outside of the company's core competency by 1999. With the supply base continuing to consolidate, MPS purchased two business units from Sediver, SA in early 2002. The first was the Sediver, Inc. business located in York, SC. This facility was the North American manufacturing based for the Sediver "impenetrable" design of injected molded T&D overhead line and substation non-ceramic insulators. Now renamed MacLean Power York, this addition complements the modular style Reliable "Compositz" non-ceramic insulators manufactured in Franklin Park, IL and expands the company's presence at key utilities and into the distribution post market. The second purchase was the Hollow Core non-ceramic insulator facility in St. Yorre, France. This facility (now called MacLean Power France) expands MPS presence in the market for EHV apparatus and substation insulators by adding one of the world leaders in the design and production of non-ceramic insulators for bushings, equipment housings, and high voltage, seismic-resistant, substation bus supports and switch post insulators. Today MacLean Power Systems is the market share leader in some of the most important product lines used for utility line construction. The Reliable automatic connector is purchased by more utility and communication users than any other automatic connector. The Continental and Pentech fiberglass product lines provide MPS with a more complete line of composite line construction products than any other supplier in the world. MacLean's silicone rubber Compositz® transmission insulators and Fiberlink® distribution insulators provide the best long term service performance in the most aggressive environments of any polymer insulator in the world. And, the Bethea line of transmission clamps and insulator fittings support more EHV lines of any hardware manufacturer.
