The Santa Monica-based company was founded on April 16, 2013 by Jay Westlin whose first start-up consumer digital content company launched in 1995 and partnered with many companies including Compuserve and Mark Cuban's AudioNet (later renamed Broadband.com and acquired by Yahoo!). Before Fastener.io, Jay was Executive Vice President of Corporate & Business Development at Spin Media (previously named BUZZMEDIA) where he was originally recruited in 2007 to help turn a company called Buzznet.com into a publishing group with more than 100 million global unique visitors per month across 40 digital publications including desktop/mobile web, mobile apps, and a YouTube Multi Channel Network.
