About
Our history Since 1966, the original dream of a hopeful group of parents to provide preschool services for their children with special needs has grown up to become many programs under one banner that encompasses the family-support needs of an entire community. For 45 years, thousands of volunteers, donors and staff have built this non-profit family organization into a vibrant community place for everyone looking to expand the dream. With your continued involvement and support, we look forward to a bright future! Encompass mission and history Encompass serves children and families through its mission: to nurture children, enrich families and inspire community. Our programs are designed to provide a network of support and education, giving families the tools they need to help their children reach their full potential and are based on prominent research in the fields of child development, family management and abuse prevention. Our philosophy begins with the understanding that parents are each child’s first and most important teachers and role models. By strengthening each parent’s efforts to provide a stable nurturing home environment, we provide support as they prepare their children to succeed in school and in life. All services are available regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Encompass began in 1966 as a parent-created and -managed preschool for special-needs children. Over the years, the organization has become an integral part of the Snoqualmie Valley, Issaquah, Sammamish and other surrounding cities, responding to changing community needs. This included the addition of our home-based Birth-to-Three Early Intervention program in 1980. We have a 31-year history of success with this program. We are a strong, vibrant, adaptive and steadily growing organization that employs more than 50 professional and administrative staff. In the 2009-2010 fiscal year, Encompass provided intensive services for 1,122 children to help them reach developmental milestones so they have a greater opportunity to succeed in school. Encompass also helped 342 parents strengthen their parenting skills and relationships with their children. In addition, Encompass welcomed 3,948 participants through programs that fostered connections to family and community through social events, support groups and family-enrichment activities.
