The goal of Space Technologies and Rocketry is to create new and innovative technologies for use in high-power rocketry and other space-related vehicles, and enter associated competitions. UC Berkeley does not have an official aerospace program; we aim to fill that role by being a research hub and group where anyone passionate about aerospace can find a home.
Among our many projects, we research propulsion, develop avionics and software, and, of course, design, build, test, and fly high-power rockets out of spaceports in the Central Valley and the Mojave Desert. Another primary function of our club is hosting outreach events in the Berkeley community in order to engage children and adults in the fields of science, engineering, mathematics, and aeronautics.
This year, we will be participating in ESRA’s Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition, where we will design, test, and build a high-power rocket capable of reaching an altitude of 10,000 feet.
The ultimate goal of STAR is to send our own student-designed and built rocket into space.
