Chicken & Egg Pictures supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. Chicken & Egg Pictures envisions a world in which women nonfiction filmmakers, representing a range of diverse experiences and backgrounds, are fully supported to realize their artistic goals and vision, build sustainable careers, and achieve parity in all areas of the film industry. Since 2005, Chicken & Egg Pictures has supported over 260 filmmakers, providing over $5.4 million in grants and thousands of hours of mentorship and creative support. We are interested in films that tackle human rights, social justice, and environmental issues in a nuanced, original, and compelling way. We look for new voices, powerful stories, and filmmakers who are committed to working in tandem with social movements. Collaboration is at the heart of great filmmaking. We take a “hands-with†approach, complementing our grants with creative mentorship, as well as field building to connect movies to movements. As filmmakers, we know that the journey from “emerging voice†to effective storyteller requires time, community, a safe space to take creative risks, craft development, constructive feedback, and shared ideas.
