On January 21, 1922, thirteen students gathered together to attend school. Greeted by two Sisters of Mercy, these thirteen students became the first class of Holy Trinity Catholic School. It was just one year earlier that Holy Trinity Catholic Church was simply a vision of then Des Moines Bishop Thomas Drumm. Now, a year later in 1923, a simple church building was built and the first class of Holy Trinity Catholic School began their educational journey.
Holy Trinity's pastor, Father Francis Ostdiek, was a very well rounded individual. Father Ostdiek knew the importance of a good education and it was his desire that Holy Trinity Catholic School become one of, if not the best, Catholic school in Des Moines. Father Ostdiek himself was a teacher. As a teacher, he knew that the there was no way to put a dollar value on a solid education.
