The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County's mission is to end hunger and transform the health of Santa Barbara County through good nutrition. Founded in 1982 in Santa Barbara with a single warehouse, Foodbank now operates from two warehouses where food is distributed through a network of 300 non-profit partners, health and nutrition programs and schools located across Santa Barbara County. To procure food, the Foodbank collaborates with national, state and local growers, producers, and food manufacturers. In fiscal 2017, ended June 30, 2017, Foodbank partners and programs provided food/nutritional resources to 162,836 unduplicated low-income individuals. 10 million pounds of food (4 million pounds of which was fresh produce) reached those in need countywide. In addition to providing a vital safety net for those struggling with food security, the Foodbank provides direct-to-client programs that pair food literacy and nutrition education with distributions of healthy, nutritious food.
