It is the mission of the Hartford Police Department to enhance the quality of life in the city of Hartford by developing partnerships with the community, and the other entities of government in a manner that promotes preservation of life and property, maintains peaceful public order, reduces fear, provides a safe environment and ensures the enforcement of law with respect for human dignity.
The Hartford Police Department is responsible for providing public safety services for the capital city of Connecticut. Hartford has approximately 124,000 residents, with an additional 50,000 guests to our city on a daily basis.
The Police Department is a full service department which houses multiple divisions, including Patrol, Major Crimes, Special Investigations, Vice/Intelligence and Narcotics, Crime Scene, Marine, Traffic, Community Service. As one of the largest departments in the state we work closely with our local, state and federal level agencies on joint task forces as well. We serve a very diverse community and actively look to recruit officers from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels.
