The Commission's objectives are set out in the Essential Services Commission Act 2001 and other relevant industry-specific legislation. Its primary objective is to promote the long-term interests of all customers with respect to price, quality and reliability of essential services. The ESC is structured as a Commission comprising a full-time Chairperson and two part-time Commissioners. It is supported by around 80 staff led by a Chief Executive Officer and four Executives.
