About
SCCDC was founded in 1965 to open one of the first Head Start programs in the nation. The program began as a summer program in Middleburgh, NY and eventually was established in four separate sites through out the county. Today SCCDC has grown to include Head Start, Early Head Start in two Centers and 3 UPK programs in school districts. Our Mission: SCCDC is dedicated to serving children and their families in their social, academic, physical and emotional development and well being. Our Philosophy: SCCDC strives to develop and foster in children and families, self worth, self sufficiency and achievable expectations to assist them in improving their quality of life. The agency achieves this by providing information, awareness of resources in the community and a structured program that recognizes individual talents and capabilities in a safe and nurturing environment. SCCDC helps families identify their strengths and encourages opportunities to build upon them. Head Start is a comprehensive child development program which serves children from ages birth to five and their families. Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. The Sharon Springs Central, Cobleskill/Richmondville and Schoharie School Districts have acknowledged SCCDC as the specialists in the area of Pre School Education and Early Childhood Development by awarding the New York State Department of Education funded grants to operate the Universal Pre-Kindergarten programs in their districts.
