Purolator has been manufacturing, marketing and distributing filters since 1923. In fact, the first automotive oil filter was called a "Purolator". The first Chrysler car sold (the "Chrysler Six") was also the first original equipment application for the Purolator oil filter (short for the words, Pure Oil Later). This filter was patented by Ernest J. Sweetland and George H. Greenhalgh in 1923 and licensed to the Motor Improvements Company of New York City (later renamed Purolator Products, Inc). Since the invention of that "Purolator" over 80 years ago, Purolator has pioneered more than 40 "firsts" in the filtration industry. Today, the Purolator brand includes more than 2,000 part numbers for automotive, light truck and heavy duty applications. Purolator's quality record speaks for itself. Two of the Big Three domestic automakers, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation, plus Mazda and Navistar, have all given significant quality awards to Purolator. In addition, Purolator Filters NA LLC manufacturing plant is "TS-16949 and "ISO 14001" registered. Winning these awards was a matter of attention to the basics - from rigorous product testing at every stage in the manufacturing process to the kind of research and development that spawns better products. But Purolator went one better, going beyond the quality of plants and products to focus on the quality of customer service.
