New London Public Schools is committed to providing our students a relevant and rigorous academic program. In this portion of our website you will find information related to teaching and learning in New London Public Schools. Our instruction is aligned to the state standards and includes strategies for engaging students in active learning and for tailoring experiences to meet the individual needs of students. Standards define what students should know and be able to do and are the basis for our curriculum. Our written curriculum is a framework that identifies not only standards, but also key components, essential ideas, knowledge, and skills for an area of study. Our goal is to have all students improve their performance relevant to the standards. We have updated our curriculum and are in the process of developing common formative assessments, as well as performance assessments. These teacher-prepared assessments, combined with standardized testing results, are used to adjust instructional practices on a daily basis. Our professional development program supports our curriculum and the growth and development of our professional staff. Aimed at improving student achievement, we continue to concentrate on providing professional development on literacy skills, data teams and effective teaching strategies.
