About
MED-SOUTH, INC. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS) of Orange Beach, Alabama. CHS is a not for profit corporation, and along with its affiliated companies, is an Alabama Corporation serving the needs of others in the healthcare industry. More specifically, Med-South, Inc. is a diversified healthcare provider that includes home medical equipment and other home health care services throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle. Primary services include, but are not limited to, home respiratory equipment and supplies, enteral nutrition, unit dose medication, along with other such ancillary products that may be necessary to provide quality care to the patients discharged from hospitals, clinics and other health care institutions. In more recent years, Med-South has developed specialties in sleep disorder testing services within hospitals and the home, biomedical repairs/services for hospitals and clinics, and diagnostic imaging via positron emission tomography (P.E.T.). Med-South has grown steadily since its inception in October of 1984. With the 1988 acquisition of Southeastern Medical, Inc., Med-South became a statewide organization in Alabama that includes fourteen (14) branch offices throughout Alabama and Mississippi. In 1990, Med-South received accreditation from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and was reaccredited in 1993, 1996, 1999, and 2002. In June, 2002 Med-South, Inc. opened a closed-door pharmacy specializing in respiratory medications (unit dose) for patients with COPD, asthma and other respiratory disease processes. From humble beginnings, Med-South, Inc. currently provides medication services to over two thousand patients in the southeast. More recently, Med-South Inc. acquired a specialty pharmacy; Partners in Care Inc. to provide high-end, high tech, disease specific pharmaceuticals to patients through physician's offices and contracting with major healthcare payors. In 1998 Med-South began to implement its new strategic plan, which emphasizes joint ventures with major hospitals for DME, polysomnographic services (sleep disorder testing), and biomedical repairs/services. Also, in August, 2004 Med-South, Inc. began a new healthcare enterprise when it opened its first medical diagnostic imaging venture. On August 2, 2004 our joint venture with St. Vincent's Hospital; St. Vincent's P.E.T. Center LLC began operations providing positron emission tomography (P.E.T.) scans on cancer patients as part of their follow up protocol. To date, Med-South has entered into joint venture agreements with Jackson Hospital and Clinic, Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama (DME, sleep studies and biomedical repair services); Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, Mississippi; Medical Center East (DME only) and St. Vincent's Hospital (sleep disorders and P.E.T. scans) in Birmingham, Alabama; and is negotiating with several other hospitals.
