Averitt Express provides less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, and expedited freight transportation service, primarily in the southern US. (LTL carriers combine freight from multiple shippers into a single trailer.) The company operates a fleet of about 3,000 tractors and 9,000 trailers from a network of some 80 terminals. Customers include Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, a unit of CBRL Group. Averitt Express also offers logistics and international freight forwarding services. Affiliate Averitt Air provides chartered passenger transportation services. CEO Gary Sasser owns Averitt Express, which was founded by Thurman Averitt as Livingston Merchants Co-op in 1958.
