About
(Orlando, FL) DaynerHall once again managed a win in the annual Addy Awards competition for the Central Florida area, taking home a Silver for a recent issue of Verizon's Focus Magazine. The award was the only one given in the category of "Newsletter - Four Color", beating out all other entries for this accolade. "The magazine has enjoyed a starring role in our portfolio for some time," said Matt Garrepy, DaynerHall's creative director and chief Addy liason. "The piece is actually the third in a continuing series, and has evolved from the first issue. The design and layout has become a compelling testament to the ability of our creative team, and our commitment to the creative product. It's really been a dream project for us, and we hope to continue the legacy. Garrepy credits a good deal of the win to art director Kelly Romano, who has been chiefly responsible for driving the layout, production and overall management of the magazine. With each installment, Romano has tapped the creative resources of other art directors - including Jason Kucharski and senior art director Cion Gutierrez - to embellish the approach and vary the design solutions. However, in every case, it has been her zeal and quest for perfection that has garnished such a dynamic result. "Now, we can all take pride in our work having been validated by the creative community," says Garrepy. "That's no small task - and we're proud of the achievement." In 2003, DaynerHall entered the Addy competition for the first time in its 30+ year history. Having never received the recognition of a local or regional Addy, Garrepy was enthusiastic about measuring the agency's potential against his peers. "We were trepidacious, of course," says Garrepy. "But we utlimately turned some heads and resonated with the judges." DaynerHall walked away with two Addys in last year's competition. While DaynerHall has racked up a number of other industry awards - accolades that measure business results as well as creative merit - Garrepy feels that the Addy competition is an effective barometer for the agency's creative integrity. "Not every piece we produce will merit an Addy," he says. "In fact, most are never intended to. Our job is to help our clients - not to win awards. The fact that we can still manage to pull in some victories in various competitions is a testament to how we do our job. We're effective - not just strategically, but creatively as well." When asked why DaynerHall is credited for the creation of the winning entry - as opposed to individual artists and writers - he had this to say: "A victory like this is something everyone has made possible. From the chief art director to the printer to the tactical people taking calls - everyone has a part in making it happen. This is really a win for all of us."
