The Sterling-Rice Group was formed in 1984 by Rick Sterling and Michael Rice. They began in an office over a Chinese restaurant, with two orange plastic chairs, a telephone and a set of beliefs. Having had experience in large, sophisticated package goods marketing companies and in small, intuitive entrepreneurial firms, they saw value in both approaches - experience, rigor and the latest analytical methods on one side; gut instinct, imagination and speed on the other.
