Jessie Moon Holton, the co-founder of the Holton-Arms School, offered her expectations for her school when she said, My high hope is that they who entered through the Open Door of Holton-Arms remember that they felt, in the friendliness of a home, the urge to learn and the joy of overcoming obstacles as the way to happiness and the fullest life. Mrs. Holton, of course, referred to the actual door of the school building, but today you can enter into the school through the open door of our website. Just as Mrs. Holton and her co-founder Carolyn Arms invited girls into the school, we invite you to come in through this cyber entrance to learn more about our outstanding school that today still lives by the values Mrs. Holton and Miss Arms established more than a century ago. You will discover a warm and friendly school, populated by a diverse group of girls and teachers. Led by teachers who are passionate, caring, and committed to high standards, these students demonstrate the "urge to learn" every day. That learning happens not just in the classroom, but on the playing field, court, pool, river, and rink; in the art studio and on stage. Part of what makes Holton-Arms unique is the level of excellence exhibited in all three areas: academics, arts, and athletics. You will find this to be a vibrant place where girls are deeply engaged in the process of learning, and where because they are both challenged and nurtured, they develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of competence.
