Greater Lakes, a community-supported non-profit organization, began in 1964 with a group of volunteers dedicated to providing mental health services in southwestern Pierce County, particularly for children. Since incorporation in 1965 when it served 175 persons, Greater Lakes has grown to become a comprehensive mental health agency that served over 14,000 individuals in 2008. In March 1997, the agency opened a beautiful new facility which unified formerly scattered programs and staff to serve the community more effectively and efficiently.
