It was the foresight of a group of local businessmen in 1920 who saw the need for a bank in this area. At the time, the closest banks were in Somerville and Whitehouse. Some people wanted the Bank in Peapack - the lower end of town - while others wanted it in Gladstone. It was decided to build the Bank in the center of the two towns.
