While most airlines transport people, ABX Air, Inc., transports packages. Because of ABX, the West Coast is just a few short hours away from the East Coast. Packages shipped from one coast at the end of the business day arrive on the other coast in time to be delivered the next morning. Mid-continent cities receive the same quick service. Late each weeknight, airplanes begin arriving in Wilmington, Ohio. Experienced handlers quickly unload the aircraft, sort the packages by codes, then reload them on the appropriate aircraft to be flown to their destination cities. International shipments are handled the same way. However, those with international destinations other than Canada are flown by ABX to U.S. Gateway cities, where they are consolidated with other shipments and flown on non-ABX international flights. U.S. Customs officials are on hand each night at ABX to process Canadian shipments.
