Many people associate Shriners with their characteristic red fez and circus-like parades, but behind all that fun are more than 20 Shriners Hospitals for Children in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Among those, three hospitals specialize in treating serious burn injuries, and another three specialize in treating spinal cord injuries. Founded by the fellowship Shrine of North America in 1922, the hospitals are supported by a multitude of fundraising events organized by 500,000 red fez-wearing members.
