About
WE MAKE THINGS Local Language is an Oakland-based creative studio that curates, conceives, designs and creates unique custom artworks and large scale installations. We are visual artists, art consultants, designers, and extraordinary makers - and the art collections we create tell the story of each community and location. Our staff works with a network of independent artists in the Bay Area and beyond, placing local artists’ work in every project. Inside our studio art fabricators utilize high-tech digital tools and artisan craft techniques to print, paint, build, and create art. We create art collections for corporate, hospitality, healthcare, and residential environments around the world. Made in Oakland. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Our Artist in Residence program offers time, space, expertise, and access to our entire studio of digital machinery and tools, along with a budget for materials. Local artists working in a multitude of disciplines are invited to work with our expert technicians in pursuit of their personal art practice for a two-month residency in our studio, culminating in a solo exhibition. COMMUNITY POSTER PROGRAM Following the rich history of progressive art in the Bay Area, the community is invited to submit artwork promoting social justice and racial equality. Monthly selections will be reproduced and distributed free of charge to the artist and larger community as fine art print posters. Oversize artwork prints on panel will be auctioned with the proceeds going to the artist’s organization of choice. STUDIO SESSIONS Experiment and create with our equipment and technology alongside an expert technician. We offer Studio Sessions, a resource for local artists and designers to rent time in our studio and fabricate their own artwork.
