The company got a big boost when word got out that the pretty purple 12-string in the 1984 "Purple Rain" music video was Taylor-made for the artist once again known as Prince. Each day, Taylor Guitars produces and ships over 200 solid-wood, Baby Taylor (child-sized), and travel guitars. Available in some 80 models, guitars range in price from about $1,300 up to $11,600 (for a Brazilian rosewood presentation guitar). Taylor also sells acoustic basses, guitar accessories, and apparel through about 800 dealers in the US and 20 other countries worldwide. Founded in 1974 by guitar-maker and president Bob Taylor and CEO Kurt Listug, the firm is still owned by the two.
