About
Wellington Airport is a vitally important piece of national infrastructure providing a significant ongoing contribution to the region’s economy as well as delivering a return to the city and shareholders on the funds invested. Wild at Heart is the spirit of our successful business and people. These words capture the attitude, passion and professionalism that makes our airport the one people keep coming back to. There is a wild side to where we are — the wild coastline, the wild weather, and our sense of adventure and innovation. There is also a pumping heart — the warm welcome of our people, our integrity, commitment to safety, the environment and our customers in our location at the heart of the nation. Wellington Airport is 66% owned by Infratil and 34% owned by Wellington City Council. By 2030, passenger numbers are expected to double to 10 million. The increase will enable Wellington Airport to generate 11,500 new jobs in the region, sustaining 21,000 full time positions and increasing its contribution to the regional economy to $1.6b a year with flow-on impacts of $3.1b. The Airport supports and sponsors many community organisations and events including: The Wellington Regional Community Awards, Life Flight Trust, World of Wearable Arts, New Zealand Festival, CubaDupa, Lux Light Festival, NZ Fringe Festival, Wellington On a Plate, Beervana, Department of Conservation, Surf Life Saving, Wellington High Performance Aquatics, Wild at Heart Spirit Awards, and the Marine Education Centre/Ocean Exploration Centre.
