About
Since 1971, the Urban League of Hudson County (ULHC) has been an effective agent of change in our community. We are a non-profit {501(c)3} community based organization dedicated to advocating, facilitating and promoting initiatives that allow local residents to participate in the development of urban neighborhoods. The ULHC is one of more than 100 affiliates to the National Urban League (NUL), which was founded in 1910. The NUL is the premier social service and civil rights organization in the United States with affiliates in 34 states and the District of Columbia. The Hudson County Affiliate was the 100th affiliate established. ULHC has a multicultural, multilingual staff that serves more than 50,000 individuals annually in one of the most densely populated and ethnically diverse counties in the country. Empowering residents and improving the quality of life in urban communities is the mission of the ULHC and we're "making it happen in Hudson County" by working in partnership with community groups, government and corporate sponsors. With a dedicated staff of professionals the Urban League provides services in the areas of education, mentorship, economic development, job placement, childcare, family counseling and programs for seniors. In addition ULHC spearheaded the establishment of the Jersey City Community Charter School, for which the State awarded a charter in 1997. Services are provided through programs and initiatives administered by the various divisions of the agency: Health and Human Services, Children Services/Childcare, Employment and Training, Urban League Housing & Community Development Corporation.
