SF New Deal provides supportive services and financial opportunities for small businesses in San Francisco. We work to address both the symptoms and root causes of inequity by building pathways which connect local business owners, workers, community leaders, and neighbors in need, for the benefit of the entire city. Bio: SF New Deal began as a rapid response to San Francisco's COVID-19 shelter in place order. The first program (CBO) raised money from private donors to pay restaurants to make and deliver meals to vulnerable individuals and families. SF New Deal worked in close partnership with fifteen long-serving community-based organizations to identify and reach people closest to harm and deliver nourishing meals made by local restaurants facing extreme economic hardship from a drop-off in revenue. Between March 23, 2020 and May 31, 2020 the program delivered over 200,000 meals and disbursed more than $2M to small businesses in San Francisco. The next phase of SF New Deal expanded to include two additional community-feeding programs: Congregate Housing Sites and Great Plates Delivered, in partnership with the City of San Francisco's Department of Aging and Disability Services, Department of Public Health, and Human Services Agency. These programs focus on meal delivery service for the previously unhoused in congregate sites and homebound seniors living independently. As of December 15, SF New Deal has delivered over 1,300,000 meals and disbursed over $13,500,000 in direct financial relief to local restaurants in San Francisco. Over 120 local businesses have participated in our program, 62% are owned by women, BIPOC, or LGBTQ+ identifying people. With COVID infections surging and phased reopening on pause, SF New Deal's programs offer critical support.
