Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF), based in Reno, Nevada, is an independent, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting parks in Truckee Meadows including Washoe County, Reno, and Sparks parks. Founded in 2012 by members of the community concerned about the economic impact on parks, TMPF strives to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the Truckee Meadows by ensuring the long-term sustainability and improvement of our parks. We do this primarily by providing in-park programming, fundraising, and opportunities for citizen engagement. Our current programs focus on improving community health and wellness, science education, and developing appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks.
The Student Stewards Program is a free, in-park, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education program that brings K-12 students to their local neighborhood parks to conduct citizen science for real research projects. This standards-based curriculum gets kids excited about the natural world and their local neighborhood parks. It opens their eyes to the value and opportunities that exist in STEM fields and helps prepare them for success in post-secondary education and careers in science.
Our other programs include:
Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge
Discover Your Parks Walks
Junior Naturalist Program
Student Stewards Summer Camp
Parks Rephotography Project
