The Greater Washington Urban League is a major interracial, nonpartisan, nonprofit social services and civil rights organization with headquarters in the District of Columbia and offices in the District and Prince George's County, Maryland. Our mission is “to increase the economic and political empowerment of blacks and other minorities and to help all Americans share equally in the responsibilities and rewards of full citizenship.†We empower communities and change lives using the approaches of social work, advocacy, law and other disciplines. The League with a staff of 30 individuals from various disciplines provides direct services and advocacy to more than 65,000 individuals annually. The League along with its auxiliary groups, Thursday Network and The Guild, manages and administers some 20 programs in the areas of Housing and Community Development, Education, Entrepreneurship, Financial Empowerment, Youth Devlopment and Emergency Services . We are a membership organization governed by a 25-member Board of Directors and an advisory board that provides expertise and guidance to support our programs.
The Greater Washington Urban League continues to seek creative ways to involve the private sector and community groups in joint ventures. The League is a 501(c)(3) organization and a member agency of the United Way of the National Capital Area, Designate #8214. We invite you to join the Greater Washington Urban League family.
