About
Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is a local and a national leader in mental health service innovation, training, and advocacy. Each year, we serve more than 9,000 individuals, including transition-age youth, veterans and their families, and others who are or have been homeless. Founded nearly 100 years ago, MHALA is famous for its paradigm of service delivery that meets each person where they are, integrates services, is strength based, and respects clients’ choices for their own progress. Based on the belief that people with mental health needs can and do recover, this paradigm of mental health recovery is widely used across the country. Today, with a staff of 400 and multiple sites across Los Angeles County, we are a one-stop shop for a full range of services, including health care; mental health services; care coordination; housing assistance and placement; employment services; financial and benefits services; education; and wellness services. MHALA addressees the factors that cause people to become homeless through homeless-prevention efforts that include wellness and resilience programs, initiatives to increase community connections, and employment. MHALA is also training the mental health workforce of tomorrow across the country through our nationally recognized Workforce and Development program.
