Al-Anon Family Group's purpose is to provide help and hope to families and friends of alcoholics. The Al-Anon Family Groups, which include Alateen for teenagers, provide support and encouragement to anyone affected by someone else's drinking. There are no dues or fees for membership. Attendance of Alateen is limited to teenagers and the adult Al-Anon members who are certified as Alateen Group Sponsors.
Individuals referred to Al-Anon and Alateen groups benefit from contact with their peers who have similar experiences and are applying the Al-Anon program to their daily lives. They learn the facts about a relative or friend's addiction to alcohol and how it affects all who are close to the drinker as well as the drinker.
Al-Anon and Alateen groups meet locally in over 118 countries. There are also electronic meetings (via email, telephone, and social media). Information about Al-Anon Family Groups is available in English, Spanish, and French on our website.
